The Association of Former Students received honors at the 41st annual Telly Awards for video storytelling and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's 2019 Circle of Excellence Awards.

"Stories of Impact: Alfredo Alvarez ’21" won both awards: the Gold People's Telly in Branded Content & Entertainment, which is voted on by the public, and the Silver Telly in Branded Content for Non-Profit. It took gold in General Information Videos - Long in CASE's international awards programming that "honors outstanding work in advancement services, alumni relations, communications, fundraising, and marketing at colleges, universities, independent schools, and affiliated nonprofits."

The Association created this video in cooperation with Texas FilmWorks.

The video tells the story of Alfredo Alvarez ’21, a cadet and member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Fish Drill Team. When Alfredo's mother passed away in 2019, he initially planned to leave college in order to work and help his father support their family. But thanks to support from The Association and its donors, he was able to remain in school. Association donors also helped make it possible for Alfredo's father to see his son march on Kyle Field for the first time.

“Telling this story was special for us because it exemplifies why Aggies helping Aggies is so important,” said Nic Taunton ’07, vice president for development for The Association. “It is always an honor for us to share how donors truly make a difference in the lives of Aggies—the generosity of the Aggie Network continually makes an impact on students like Alfredo.”

The Telly Awards honor video and television made for all screens and are judged by The Telly Award Judging Council, a group of leading video and television experts from some of the most prestigious companies in entertainment, publishing, advertising, and emerging technology. The Association of Former Students has a bold vision to engage 100,000 donors annually for Texas A&M by the end of 2020. To learn more, visit tx.ag/100Kby2020. To help us help more Aggies like Alfredo, make a gift at tx.ag/Give.
