Aggies Head to Capitol Hill for Advocacy Event

The Association of Former Students and members of Texas A&M leadership went to Washington this April for Aggies on the Hill. This biennial event in our nation's capital promotes awareness and encourages federal support for Texas A&M and higher education. The event also recognizes and celebrates all the former students who live and work in the area.

The delegation met with elected officials in order to increase public and legislative support for higher education, particularly Texas A&M. Association staff and volunteers met with the National Capital and Maryland A&M Clubs. U.S. Secret Service Director R.D. “Tex” Alles ’76, Texas senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, Reps. Joe Barton ’72, Bill Flores ’76, Jeb Hensarling ’79, Louie Gohmert, Jr. '75, Will Hurd ’99 and other members of the Texas congressional delegation all made time to talk with the maroon-clad group. Two Aggie Rings were presented during the closing reception to currently enrolled Aggies who are interning in Washington, D.C.

“It was a tremendous success,” said David Fujimoto ’17, The Association’s director of strategic engagement. “It was a great opportunity to share the many individual and collective successes of our university, and to emphasize the life-changing impact a college degree from Texas A&M has on both its graduates and society as a whole.”

The Texas A&M Advocacy Network is a programming effort managed by The Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University. The program exists to promote the interests and welfare of Texas A&M University by serving as an avenue for former students and friends of the university to engage key stakeholders on issues impacting Texas A&M. The Texas A&M Advocacy Network will also highlight former students of Texas A&M that are making positive contributions in their community through government service.
