Robert "Bob" Felton Krouse
1934-2015
Robert "Bob" Felton Krouse, 81, of Houston, Texas, was born on the 13th of October 1934 in Tulsa Oklahoma, and passed away on Thursday, the 31st of December 2015 in Houston. Bob was known as Dad, Coach, pilot call sign "Garbageman", Bops to his grandchildren, and Uncle Bobby to his friend's children. He was born to Carl William and Ruth Felton Krouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, son, and mentor to his family and to all others whose lives he touched. He had a great passion for his faith and for spending time with his family and friends.
Bob attended Lamar High School (1952) and graduated from Texas A&M (1956), where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the Freshman swim team. He later became a Captain in the US Air Force and was stationed in the Pacific (Eniwetok); he later served in the Air Force Reserves. Bob tried his hand at ranching, banking and sales, finding his niche at Xerox, where he earned numerous awards and accomplishments, including multiple President's Club distinctions. He holds the record for Salesperson of the Year. He was a long-time member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where he was especially devoted to the Prayer and Healing ministry. Bob recently began attending Bethany Christian Church, where he was baptized as a child.
Bob was a man of strong passions. He had a special love of aviation and military history, particularly WWII, and owned a single engine Mooney airplane he enjoyed flying. A gun enthusiast, he had a deep respect for Winchesters and Brownings. He was able to utilize both areas of expertise as a private pilot and ranch manager for Albert Fay.
Bob treasured creating memorable holiday celebrations for his family; birthdays and Christmases were his favorite times of the year. He loved coaching sports as a way of mentoring children and attending his children's, grandchildren's, and many other friends' games. He reveled in playing cards on poker night, and was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. He cherished being in the wilderness, enjoying nature, often fishing inshore and offshore in Port O'Connor, hunting duck and geese in the Texas prairie, deer and antelope in Colorado, and pheasant in South Dakota.
Bob was a member of the Briar Club for over fifty years, a life member of the NRA, "President" of the River Oaks Dog Club at his beloved "Pumpkin Park", and a proud member of the Coastal Conservation Association, Ducks Unlimited, Texas A&M Twelfth Man Foundation and Association of Former Students.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by two children, Catherine Alicia Krouse, married to Jerome Crowder, Kyle Felton Krouse, married to Carrye Jorgensen Krouse; his grandchildren, Kyle Felton Krouse, Jr., Brady Austin Krouse, and Kirby Summers Krouse; his brother, Richard Carl Krouse; his former wife, Rhetta Duty; his faithful four-legged companions throughout his life (Taffy, Voodoo, Seven, and Shadow); and many loyal friends in Houston and Port O'Connor, Texas, and Colorado.
Of the many talents he had and shared, Bob was a storyteller extraordinaire. Captain Krouse will be sorely missed as his contagious smile, warm heart, loyalty and good sense of humor brought laughter and joy to all.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Bob during a reception to be held from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 6th of January, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon, on Thursday, the 7th of January, at Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer Road in Houston.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Citizens for Animal Protection, 17555 Katy Freeway, Houston, 77094, www.cap4pets.org; or the American Diabetes Association , 7670 Woodway, Houston, 77063, www.diabetes.org.
