Nordic Splendors

August 2, 2014 - August 14, 2014

From Amsterdam’s gabled houses to the outdoor sculptures of Klaipeda, gain an intriguing perspective of Northern Europe while viewing a section of the historically decorated Berlin Wall. A more distant history is revealed in the 18th-century Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg, where tsars from Peter the Great to Nicholas II rest. With more than 13,000 works of art, ceremonial items and historical objects, the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam offers a comprehensive view of Jewish history in the Netherlands. Established in 1346 east of Helsinki, Porvoo is Finland’s second-oldest town, with cobblestone streets and painted wooden buildings. The Stutthof concentration camp near Gdansk is a sobering reminder of one of the darkest periods of European history; it opened on the second day of World War II and was liberated on May 9, 1945.
