Autumn in America's Heartland

October 10-19, 2012

Experience autumn in the Midwest from the alluring viewpoint of the Upper Mississippi River aboard the American Queen, and see the rich burst of color that grows ever more spectacular as you head north from Missouri to Minnesota. Following two nights in St. Louis, home to gorgeous urban parks and the famed, high-rising Gateway Arch, embark on a steamboating adventure as you cruise among the multi-hued splendors of fall. Stop in Hannibal, the boyhood home of Mark Twain, and board the Twainland Express train for an authentic look at riverside life in America. Experience the unique, scenic landscapes of Burlington, Iowa, and stroll the elegant parks and modern bridges of Davenport. Visit Dubuque, “The Masterpiece of the Mississippi,” and stroll through its vibrant revitalized riverfront. In La Crosse, see Grandad Bluff, described by Mark Twain himself in Life on the Mississippi; and in picturesque Red Wing, let the past come to life on a walking tour of its many historic sites. Your journey concludes in St. Paul, Minnesota’s historic capital.
