Gordon J. Landry
LANDRY Gordon J. Landry, PhD, 84, passed away on May 5, 2010, in Atlanta, GA. He was a native of New Orleans, LA, a resident of Kennesaw GA, and had been a long-time resident of Thibodaux, LA. Dr. Landry received a BS in Education from Loyola University in 1955, an MEd from Loyola in 1957, an MA in Mathematics from Louisiana State University in 1960, and a PhD in Mathematics from Texas A&M University in 1969. His college teaching career began at what is now the University of New Orleans. After completing his PhD, he taught mathematics at Nicholls State University from 1969 until his retirement in 1995. Dr. Landry served his country during WWII as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, 5th Infantry Division, seeing action in Okinawa, the Ryukyu Islands, then crossing the Sea of Japan to participate in the occupation of Japan and China until April of 1946. He is survived by his four children, Gary M. Landry and wife Susan Barilleaux Landry of Metairie, LA, Dr. Therese Landry DeMouy and husband Dr. Jeffrey DeMouy of Baton Rouge, LA, Anne Landry Lagarde and husband Kevin of Thibodaux, LA, Gregory M. Landry, Sr. and wife Claudia Gutierrez Landry of Kennesaw, GA.; eight grandchildren, Laura, Robert and Thomas DeMouy, Justin, Julie and Ashley Lagarde, and Raquel and Gregory Landry, Jr.; and former spouse Madeleine Delaune Landry of Thibodaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rumsey Gordon and Marie Voorhies Landry, brother Edward Alcee Landry and sister Joyce Ann Landry Luccia. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and ancillary medical personnel of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, G-2 ICU for their skill and compassion in caring for Gordon. Visitation Tuesday, May 18th at St. Thomas Aquinas on the Nicholls State University campus from 4:30 pm until the Memorial Mass at 6:00 pm. Private inurnment to be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the scholarship fund of the Nicholls Foundation.
