John Albert Weihrich, CAPT USN (Ret)
January 3, 1939 - November 21, 2025
CAPTAIN JOHN ALBERT WEIHRICH, USN (Ret.), passed away on November 21, 2025. He was loved by many; his kindness, humility, and cheerful spirit made a meaningful impact on countless people. Though he has set sail on the final voyage, his spirit will forever remain anchored in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Captain Weihrich was born in Houston, Texas on January 3, 1939, to Albert John Weihrich and Stella Maxine Pate. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX and received a degree in Industrial Technology from Texas A&M University. Captain Weihrich served active duty in the Pacific on board the USS HAVERFIELD (DER-393) and in Albuquerque, New Mexico at Sandia Base where he taught missile technology at the Defense Atomic Support Agency. He received a Naval unit Citation medal and a Joint Service Commendation for his work in atomic technology.
After active service, he served in the United States Navy Reserve at the Ship Activation, Maintenance & Repair Unit at Naval Reserve Center Orange (SAM&R) for almost 20 years. His career path after active service was with PPG Industries for 31 years. John’s career involved many different locations and positions within the company. He retired as the Site Manager of a production facility in La Porte, TX
John was outgoing and maintained strong friendships from both the Navy and PPG throughout his life.
John’s first love was his wife, followed by family. Throughout his retirement, much like during his professional life, he moved several times to be in places where he could best support his family and where they could support him. John loved fishing, hunting, the great outdoors and watching a Fightin’ Texas Aggie football game especially with family and friends. Before his passing he would tell you his favorite activity was watching his great grandsons play with the spring lambs at his son’s ranch.
John leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Sandra Harper Weihrich, as well as his son, John Weihrich Jr. and daughter-in-law Lorrie Massengale Weihrich, grandchildren Zachary Weihrich and partner Bellami Benigno, Melinda Weihrich Calvillo and husband Steven Calvillo and great-grandsons Wells Alexander Calvillo and Evan Graham Calvillo, sister Palma Ann Weihrich Kelly, nieces Lesley Kelly West and husband Willie West, Anita Kelly Corbello and husband Dale Corbello, Cassie Simer, nephew Murice Simer Jr. and wife Wuanita Simer.
Fair winds and following seas, Captain. Your watch is complete.
A memorial is pending in College Station, Texas.
