Paul Funston Sanders
August 4, 1941 - February 8, 2026
Paul received his Angel Wings on Sunday February 8th, 2026 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer and he will truly be missed by many.
Paul was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Paul Venrick Sanders and Elizabeth Funston Sanders. The family moved to San Antonio when Paul was entering second grade and lived there until he left for college.
Paul sang in the Methodist Church choir growing up. He was also a lifeguard, a camp counselor, played on the football, boxing & wrestling teams during his high school years, as well as serving as the Class President.
Paul began his college years attending Texas A & I in Kingsville for two years before transferring to the University of Texas Galveston and completing his bachelor's degree.
Paul would tell you he had many jobs while he worked his way through his extensive college career; he worked on a barge in the summers, moved furniture and trained security dogs. After receiving his bachelor's degree, Paul worked for Dun & Bradstreet as a career counselor and went from there to UT Medical Branch as a computer programmer.
While attending college and working, Paul married Catherine Sanders (Cay) and started a family with twin boys Matt & Todd Sanders. Paul & Cay were involved with the Brazos Kennel Club for many years, breeding and showing Irish Wolfhounds.
However, Paul realized he truly belonged at Texas A & M in College Station, where he became a member of the Aggie family and completed his MBA in 1974 and also earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Upon receiving his CPA, Paul went to work for Ernst & Ernst in Houston until 1978 when he and former partner, Richard West, purchased a small tax practice in Bryan and worked together for 25 years as Sanders & West, CPA's.
In 2004 Paul and his second wife, Tracye, started Paul F. Sanders, CPA, which later became Sanders & Associates Tax & Accounting Solutions. Paul officially retired in 2025, although he continued to visit with clients and serve the community. Tracye, along with long-time employees and friends Dee, Heather, Jessica, Melissa and Katrina continue that legacy.
When not working Paul enjoyed hiking, canoeing, hunting, woodworking and watching football (especially the Aggies & Cowboys).
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul V. and Elizabeth Sanders, as well as his siblings, Margaret Fuller, Nancy Cote & Richard Sanders.
Paul is survived by wife and partner of over 30 years, Tracye Sanders; Sons Matt (Jennifer) Sanders, Todd Sanders; Stepsons Paul Dobbs Jr and Kevin (Alana) Dobbs; grandchildren Jordyn, Tyler, Cat and Ginny Sanders; as well as Kayla Dobbs, Ivy, Lily and Tyler Slay. His lifelong friend Dr. James Black; honorary daughter Barbara DeAnda; beloved dog Sasha and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Life Celebration in memory of Paul will be held on Saturday, the 28th of February 2026, at the Benjamin Knox Gallery located at 405 University Dr E., College Station. Friends and family are welcome to visit anytime between the hours of 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
