Charles Huntley "Chuck" Meredith
August 19, 1938 - January 3, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Huntley Meredith, affectionately known as "Chuck," on January 3, 2026, at the age of eighty-seven in Bishop, California. Born on August 19, 1938, in Dallas, Texas and raised in Waxahachie, Texas, Chuck was a spirited and imaginative child, earning the nickname "Buzz" for his boundless energy and adventurous nature.
Chuck graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he proudly earned a degree in Civil Engineering. His professional life was marked by dedication and service through a long and respected 35-year career with the U.S. Forest Service. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the honorary title of "Steward of the Forest."
A man of strong values, Chuck was known for his love of the outdoors and his appreciation for hard work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting, and was an avid collector of quality tools and antique flashlights. He served his Mono County community in multiple ways, from Little League Baseball Commissioner to gun store owner, to serving on multiple Grand Juries. He also found joy in the simple pleasures-watching classic westerns and war movies, sharing coffee with friends at Nicely's in Lee Vining, and spending time in Baja after retirement.
Above all, Chuck was a devoted family man. He cherished vacations and quality time with his wife and children, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. His generosity, loyalty, and leadership touched everyone who knew him.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Huntley Meredith, Jr. and Alice Atkins Meredith, brother Richard Meredith, and sister Margaret Bookhout, and by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Donna Meredith. He is survived by his son Scott Meredith and daughter-in-law Cassandra; his daughter Tracy Tootell and son-in-law Scott; and his grandson, Scott Jr.
In keeping with the family's wishes there will be no public service. Chuck will be remembered forever by family and friends, who take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with Donna.
