William "Bill" Haglund '70 February 16, 2026 12:45 PM updated: February 16, 2026 12:50 PM

William Martin "Bill" Haglund, DVM

August 26, 1949 - February 5, 2026

William Martin “Bill” Haglund, DVM passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Bill was born on August 26, 1949, in Galveston, Texas. He was the son of Harold Albert “Al” Haglund and Dorothy Nelson Haglund. After graduating from Kirwin High School in 1966, Bill attended Texas A&M University, where he received his veterinary degree in 1971. He practiced at the Animal Clinic in Galveston until 1975, at which time he helped establish Echo Lane Animal Clinic in Houston. He later sold the clinic to Dr. Allison Dees, a respected veterinarian whom he gladly left to carry on the legacy that he began.

His professional activities included membership in the AVMA, TVMA and Harris County VMA, for which he served as treasurer for many years. He also served as a member of the Spring Branch Independent School District Board of Trustees, the SBISD Career and Technology Education Advisory Board, and the Westwick Homeowners Association and Spring Manor Townhome Association Boards of Directors.

The proudest moments of Bill’s life involved his service through Rotary. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Memorial-Spring Branch and the board of Memorial-Spring Branch Rotary Charities, Inc. As such, Bill was active in many activities at both the club and district levels. He was a Major Donor, Bequest Society Member, Polio Plus Society member, and was named District 5890 Rotarian of the Year twice. His favorite projects were those that involved helping children, and he always tried to live by the Four-Way Test and to keep in mind the motto of Rotary, “Service Above Self.”

Bill is preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Connie Sue Haglund. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Marie Haglund, whom he loved very much. Lisa would like to thank Bill’s many family and friends from the past and present, who always meant so much to him; the many physicians, nurses, and other providers, who helped Bill as much as possible; his caregivers, who tended to Bill’s every need when in his company; Linda Haglund, Bill’s ex-wife who constantly showed support for him and who has always been there for Lisa; and Sheila Franklin, Bill’s partner and constant companion who answered the call for help repeatedly and showed compassion for him until his final day.
