James Moorman LoCaste
August 14, 1931 - December 26, 2025
James Moorman LoCaste, 94, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, in Houston. A memorial service will take place at Grimes Funeral Chapel January 28, 2026, at 2 PM.
Born in Dallas, Texas, on August 14, 1931, James (Jim) attended Texas A&M University and while there acquired BS in Civil Engineering and a slew of parking tickets. To escape the A&M parking police, Jim joined the Army as a Paratrooper in the 11th airborne. He received an honorable discharge to marry the love of his life.
He spent his career in foreign countries building oil pipelines in the jungles of Venezuela, Colombia, and Bolivia; the deserts of Libya and Saudi Arabia; the North Sea off Scotland and the frozen tundra of Alaska. He also built a bridge over the Rio Palmar in Colombia and a sulfur prilling plant in Saudi Arabia. He was once the Director of Public Works in Kerrville, Texas from 1970-1974.
Jim was an avid golfer, enjoyed building golf clubs, collecting firearms, singing along with Willie Nelson songs, working in the yard, and writing poetry. His family was very important to him and took them with him wherever he went. At one time he had a ''chainsaw ministry'' to Kerrville First Baptist Church, neighbors, and people in the church community.
Jim is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carolyn, and his daughter and 2 sons, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jim will be remembered as a deeply passionate, larger than life man, with deep convictions for his faith, family, and work. He leaves a legacy as big and varied as his character with all that knew him.
