George William Laing
January 12, 1931 - December 9, 2025
George William Laing was born in Springlake, Texas, to John and Gladys Laing. He attended Earth-Springlake schools and graduated from Earth-Springlake High School, where he played on the school football team. He then joined the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Houston and a Master's Degree in mathematics from Eastern New Mexico State University. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force.
After farming in Lamb County, Texas, for ten years, George moved his family to Houston. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Earth, Texas, where he was Chairman of the Deacons. In Houston, he joined South Main Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for over 50 years and on the Pastoral Care Committee.
George was preceded in death by his parents, John Martin Laing, Sr. and Gladys Carrie Green Laing; his sister, Janabeth Laing Lakenmacher,; his daughter-in-law, Leslie Renee Laing; and his granddaughter, Jessica Renee Laing.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ava Elisabeth Stewart Laing; and their three children and their families: son, James William Laing, his wife, Teri Ruth Laing, and their son, John Paul Laing; son, John Stewart Laing, and daughter, Mary Elisabeth Laing Kingan, her son, Charles William Kingan, and her daughter, Madeleine Elisabeth Kingan. He is also survived by his brother, John Martin Laing, Jr.
A service will be held on January 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
