David Glass Tees 

July 22, 1944 - January 2, 2026 

David Glass Tees passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on July 22, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to Griffith and Henrietta Tees, David earned both his bachelor's (1966) and master's degrees (1973) in engineering from Texas A&M University.

David's career began at Houston Lighting & Power (HL&P) in 1966 and continued there and with successor companies for 40 years. His leadership encompassed power plant operations and maintenance, engineering, construction, and environmental safety. He held executive roles with HL&P, CenterPoint Energy, Houston Industries, Inc., Reliant Energy, and Texas Genco Holdings, Inc. (Genco), managing power generation across the United States, South America, and Europe. In 2006, David retired as President and CEO of Genco.

David continued to shape the energy industry as a Sr. Advisor at Zachry Project Management and Consulting, LLC, and as a director of Econo Power International Corporation. He also served on the Texas A&M Dean of Engineering Advisory Council and as an instructor at Rice University's Executive Management School. His dedication to the environment continued as Director and VP of Finance at Houston Regional Monitoring Corporation and as Director and Chairman of the Board at South Texas Project Nuclear Operating Company.

David will be remembered for motivating and valuing his employees, his brilliant leadership, integrity, and unwavering dedication to clean and reliable energy.

David is survived by his wife, Valerie; sons Jared (Beth), Carl Burch (Christie), and Tye Burch (Stephanie); and seven grandchildren.
