Jack Patrick Eckels
January 25, 1948 - November 7, 2025
Born in Dallas, Texas January 25, 1948 to parents Pat O. Eckels and Betty Alley Eckels and died on November 7, 2025 much too soon according to his family and friends.
Jack graduated from Texas A&M University with an accounting degree in 1969. He received his JD in 1972 from University of Texas School of Law and a Masters in Tax Law in 1974 from New York University. He was Board Certified in Tax Law and Estate Planning and Probate Law.
He started his legal career with the Cox, Smith Law Firm in San Antonio. He relocated to Houston in 1977 where he joined the Chamberlain Hrdlicka Law Firm and married Diane Davis, his wife of 48 years. They had been an item since they met in the law library at UT. Together they had rewarding careers, traveled extensively, mentored children through their church St Paul's Methodist and in general enjoyed life. At Chamberlain Hrdlicka for more than 40 years, he enjoyed his work, his colleagues and his clients.
Jack was a brilliant tax attorney, an outstanding mentor, and a dear friend to his colleagues and clients. He is remembered fondly for his sharp sense of humor, storytelling, and unrivaled knowledge of tax law. His family will never forget his kindness, patience and genuine interest in other people.
He is survived by his wife, his brother Robert and his wife Robin, his brother-in-law John, his nephew Richard and his girlfriend Jacqueline Dennison and numerous other relatives.
Jack and Diane moved to the Hallmark almost two years ago and have many friends there. A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held there, 4718 Hallmark Dr., on December 7th, 2025.
