David Ivy '82 January 22, 2026 4:25 PM updated: January 22, 2026 4:31 PM

David Wayne Ivy

October 27, 1959 - November 25, 2025

David Wayne Ivy, 66, of Spring, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and three children on November 25th, 2025.

David was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 27th, 1959. He was predeceased by his parents Rowland David Ivy and Dorothy Jean Jackson Ivy. David graduated from Humble High School in 1978 and went on to attend Texas A&M University in the School of Engineering. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1982. During his senior year at Texas A&M, David met his future wife, Cathy, and the two were later married in 1983 and spent 42 wonderful, event-filled years together.

After graduating, David began his career as a Chemical Engineer for Mobil, where he worked for Exploration & Production and then Mobil Chemical for 20 years. In 2000, Mobil merged with Exxon and he spent the next 19 years wearing many hats within the ExxonMobil Chemical Company, ending his career as a Strategic Project Manager for Synthetics. He retired in February 2021 after 39 total years of service.

David was known for his steadfast nature, patience, sense of humor, leadership, and love of family. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and lived out his faith every day in so many ways. David was always looking for ways to serve his family, community, and his church. At his church in Katy, he shepherded and mentored the same group of students from 2nd grade through their senior year of high school. With ExxonMobil, he was an active participant in Community Partners and United Way. After retirement, he became a Lay Counselor at his home church in Spring.

His grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews lovingly called him “Duke”. He was always up for some fun and he loved being outdoors driving his tractor around the land near Lake Livingston. Dave was a Mister Fixit and enjoyed planning and building many projects especially with wood from his land.

While he did suffer health issues, he never let that stop him from loving and enjoying his family, traveling with Cathy, or having a ball at the annual Ivy Beach Vacation in Galveston.

David is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; children, Russell Ivy, April Tomon and husband Adam, Jill Boddie and husband Michael; grandchildren, Melody Ivy, Aaron Ivy, Adeline Tomon, Ashton Tomon, and McKenna Boddie; siblings Laurie Brown and husband Michael, Robert Ivy and wife Michelle; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of life service will take place at WoodsEdge Community Church on Friday, December 5th, 2025. A brief visitation will take place from 9 AM - 10 AM, and the service will begin at 10 AM.
