James Richard "Rick" Wisdom
August 20, 1953 - November 12, 2025
James Richard "Rick" Wisdom, 72, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at home in the presence of family.
He was born on August 20, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Paul Richard Wisdom and Nina Faye Monroe Wisdom.
Rick was a Christian and faithfully followed Jesus Christ throughout his life. He was a 1971 graduate of Wolfe City High School and a proud alumnus of Texas A&M University and a lifelong Aggies fan. Rick was also the proud winner of the 2019 Wisdom Family Chili Cookoff.
Although Rick retired as a respected petroleum landman (RPL), he explored many interests and occupations throughout his life, including (but not limited to): diesel mechanic, Christmas tree farmer, real estate investor, beekeeper, carpenter, car salesman, hunting club manager, pilot, emu farmer, commodities trader, rock n' roll drummer, scuba diver, insurance adjuster, technician at International Paper, obsessive foodie, Shetland pony rancher, and rodeo bull rider (kinda).
Rick was proceeded in death by his father, Paul Richard Wisdom; and grandchildren, Frankie and Charlie Nichols. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debra "Debbie" Allen Wisdom; his devoted children, Brin Wisdom Nichols and husband, Matthew; Rich Wisdom and wife, Carrie; Dr. Jeremiah Wisdom and wife, Kelly; Reverend Sam Wisdom and wife, Emily; and Maryanna Wisdom Roberts and husband, Cole; his loving grandchildren Kaylee, Jack, Kennedy, Luke, Audrey, Walker and Henry; his mother, Nina Faye Monroe Wisdom; his brother, Mark Wisdom and wife, Susan; nieces Sara and Hanna; nephew John; and numerous relatives and friends, of which he had several nicknames for all.
A graveside celebration of life will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 2 pm at Laws Chapel Cemetery in Atlanta, Texas, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with his son, Rev. Sam Wisdom officiating.
