Charles Edward Price 

July 7, 1936 - May 25, 2025 

Charles Edward Price, age 88, passed away May 25, 2025, in Palestine, TX. Services are Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00am at First Methodist Church at 422 South Magnolia St. Palestine, Tx 75801, followed by a reception in the Larry Lamely Fellowship Hall at the church. Inurnment will follow at Tubb Cemetery, FM 542, Leon Co., 17 miles south of Oakwood, Texas, where 5 generations of Prices are buried since 1840, the Republic of Texas era.

He was born July 7, 1936, in Nineveh (Leon Co.) Texas. Preceded in death by his parents, Manning A. Price and Iris Christabelle English, brother Richard Manning Price. Grandparents Charlie Cleveland Price, Fannie Lou Manning Price “Momma”, and great aunt Addie Manning, all who raised him, and step-parents Joyce Price and Durward Jones.

Survived by his wife, Charlene, daughter, Christine Muniz (Louis) of Palestine, son Craig Price, of Hurst, grandsons Conner, Evan, Grant, Joseph, and Alex Price, of Dallas area, brother Dr. William (Nancy) Price, of College Station, in-laws Mary Haley Shah (Anil), of Houston, Roland Haley (Bonnie), of Whitehouse, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He grew up in Leon Co., graduating from Oakwood High School in 1953. After attending Texas A&M for a semester, he worked on oil rigs in Louisiana. On a visit home he was in a bad car accident. After recovering, he attended Sam Houston State College, graduating in 1959 with a BBA degree. He and Charlene Haley were married at Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church Aug. 22, 1959, married for 65 years.

Charles worked as an accountant for Lone Star Steel (Dallas), Sparkler Mfg. (Conroe), and as an auditor for the Federal Government Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) in San Antonio, becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1971.

At age 35, he suffered a debilitating stroke, and after recovering, he opened a practice in Georgetown, TX. A member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, he and Charlene helped organize the Seekers Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Evening Lion's Club, serving as the treasurer.

In 2000, he and Charlene moved to Palestine to be near relatives and the farm, and joined the First Methodist Church, where they were members of the Emmanuel Sunday School class and Charles served on the Finance Committee. They made lifelong friends at both churches.

Charles shared an interest and knowledge of cars with his daughter. A favorite pastime was to look at car lots for the latest offerings. With son Craig, he shared his interest in 50s music, attending Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley concerts in Austin.

A man of few words, he surprised many with his quick wit and humor. A skillful player of cards, dominoes, “42” and “84”, he played with determination to win, even when playing Monopoly with his grandsons. He enjoyed traveling and planning trips and had visited almost all of the United States.

He loved his family, friends, farm, animals, especially cows, attending church, high school reunions, and genealogy research.
