Dag Gustav Heggelund
November 17, 1962 - October 24, 2025
Dag Heggelund, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on November 17, 1962, in Andenes, Norway, Dag was the youngest of four children born to Asta and Rolf Heggelund.
Dag’s journey carried him far beyond his hometown on the northern coast of Norway. In 1982, he moved to Texas to study at Texas A&M University, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Mathematics. It was there, in 1984, that he met the love of his life, Teri, whom he married in 1987.
A brilliant engineer, software developer, and entrepreneur, Dag founded four companies and launched multiple flagship products that revolutionized their respective industries. His pioneering work in Data Quality Management, Continuous Monitoring, and Continuous Auditing made lasting contributions to the oil and gas sector and to food traceability systems worldwide.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dag was a man of deep passions and boundless curiosity. He loved traveling to Norway with his family, sharing with his sons the beauty and traditions of his homeland. Some of his happiest days were spent outdoors in the Norwegian wilderness—fishing in quiet fjords, hiking along rugged trails, and reconnecting with the place that shaped him.
At home in Texas, Dag was known for his love of barbequing and his legendary brisket, which he perfected over the years and took great pride in sharing with friends and family. He cherished hosting gatherings filled with laughter, good food, and stories, embodying the warmth and hospitality that defined his life.
Dag was preceded in death by his parents, Asta and Rolf Heggelund. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Teri Heggelund; his children, John Heggelund, Philip Heggelund, and Christy Hopkins; his grandchildren, Arthur Heggelund and Margot Heggelund; his brother, Per Heggelund; and his sisters, Ingrid Heggelund and Dagny Kristoffersen.
Dag will be remembered for his brilliant mind, generous heart, and enduring love for family and friends. He is gone but not forgotten—his spirit and his stories will live on in all who were fortunate to know and love him.
