Lamon Leon Bennett, Jr. 

October 8, 1932 - January 5, 2026 

Lamon Leon Bennett, Jr., 93, of George West, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of January 5, 2026.

Lamon was born on October 8, 1932, in Marlin, Texas, to Lamon and Inez Bennett. He graduated from George West High School in 1950 and earned a degree in Range and Forestry from Texas A&M University in 1954, where he served as a Ross Volunteer. He later served in the U.S. Army and then spent more than 35 years with Celanese in Bishop, Texas. His final assignment with Celanese was supervising the construction of a plastics plant in Taiwan.

Lamon was a member of George West Methodist Church, where he served in various leadership and volunteer roles. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. His primary volunteer work was the renovation of the Dobie West Performing Arts Theatre, which he helped restore into a functioning community theater. He also volunteered with Dobie Dichos, the Lions Club, and the George West Cemetery Association.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lamon enjoyed tending his cattle, traveling abroad, and living in George West for more than 60 years.

Lamon is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elaine Probst Bennett; five children: Lynn Bennett (Debbie Williams), Cheryl Michalk (Dwight Michalk), Lori Desenberg (Dave Desenberg), DeAnn Seifried (Gary Seifried), and Amy Brace (Randy Brace); 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at George West Methodist Church in George West, Texas. Those wishing to honor Lamon’s Aggie roots may wear maroon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to George West Methodist Church in his memory.
