Aber Lucinda "Cindy" Martinez
January 11, 1966 - October 1, 2025
Aber Lucinda Martinez, affectionately known to all as “Cindy,” passed away on October 1, 2025, at the age of 59. Born in Dallas, Texas, on January 11, 1966, Cindy made Houston her lifelong home — a city that perfectly matched her generous spirit, boundless energy, and love for people. Our brightest light went out when we lost Cindy, but her warmth continues to shine in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Cindy graduated from Cy-Fair High School with the Class of 1986 and went on to earn her degree from Texas A&M University, where she began building the foundation for a meaningful career in Human Resources. Throughout her years with Community Health Choice, Cindy was known not only for her professionalism but for her compassion and willingness to help anyone in need. As a proud member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), she guided and mentored others with kindness and patience, always putting people first.
Family was at the center of Cindy’s life. She was a devoted daughter to her mother, Manuela (Mela) Flores, and a loving sister to Monica Hughes and Robert (Bobby) Flores. She was a fun and adventurous aunt to her nephews, Justin Hughes (Brenda) and Michael Hughes, and she cherished her great nieces and nephews — Ariana, Sanoah, Joseph, Jaqueline, and Riker — with all her heart. Cindy made every effort to spend time with family, whether celebrating holidays, traveling together, or visiting to share laughter and stories. Halloween trips to see her great nieces and nephews were among her favorite traditions.
Cindy’s life was filled with passion and joy. She was an active volunteer with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and a loyal Houston Texans season ticket holder — always ready for a good tailgate and great company. She loved traveling to Mexico with family and friends, bringing joy, laughter, and a sense of adventure wherever she went. As secretary of the Braeburn Valley Garden Club since 2014, she found community and friendship while sharing her love of nature. Known as the neighborhood’s “tech support,” Cindy was the go-to person for help with laptops, phones, and gadgets — a role she filled with patience, humor, and heart.
Her family describes her as selfless, brave, generous, humorous, honest, and above all, devoted. Cindy lived her life with quiet strength and unwavering kindness. She gave freely of herself, never expecting anything in return, and her gentle wisdom touched countless lives.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Jose Flores. She is survived by her loving mother, Manuela (Mela) Flores; her sister, Monica Hughes; her brother, Robert (Bobby) Flores; her nephews, Justin Hughes and his wife Brenda, and Michael Hughes; her great nieces and nephews, and Rene Martinez.
Cindy will be dearly missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on forever in our hearts.
A Rosary will be held for Cindy on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft, Houston, Texas.
