Jimmy Lloyd Solomon

Jimmy Lloyd Solomon was born in Milan, TN on October 3, 1941, to Nettie Parker Hutchison Solomon and Jason Marion Solomon. Jimmy passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, just four days short of his 84th birthday.
Jimmy grew up in Premont, TX, with his brother, Bobby Solomon, mother, and step-father, Max Turman. After graduating from Premont High School, Jimmy attended Ole Miss witnessing the integration of the university first-hand when James Meridith matriculated.
After graduating with his Bachelor’s from Ole Miss, Jimmy married Margaret D. Fogle of Freer, TX, and moved to Starkville, MS where he continued his education. Together, Margaret and Jimmy devoted their lives to family, friends and education.
Jimmy earned a Master's degree from Mississippi State and afterwards a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in mathematics.
Following graduation from Texas A&M, Jimmy's first position was at Texas A&M-Kingsville (Texas A & I). While there, Jimmy worked summers at the Johnson Space Center researching remote sensing applications.
The majority of Jimmy's career was at Mississippi State University followed by a decade plus at Georgia Southern University. Jimmy spent time not only in the classroom, but also as an administrator serving as department chair and as the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State University and as the Dean of Science and Technology at Georgia Southern University before retiring.
In retirement, Jimmy developed a passion for woodworking. He specialized in the repair and restoration of pistol grips for historic and collectible firearms. His work has shipped to all six inhabited continents and has helped his clients preserve historic treasures.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Margaret D. Solomon, his parents J. M. Solomon, Nettie Parker Hutchison Solomon Turman, and Max Turman, brother in law H.W. “Herbie” Fogle, Sister in law Kathryn Fogle Dierke, Brother in law C.W. “Dirk” Dierke, Sr., nephew C.W. “Dub” Dierke, niece Katy Dierke Duncan, and nephew Richard Duncan.
He is survived by his brother, Bobby and his wife Glenda, his son Lloyd Solomon and his wife Heidi Carson Solomon, granddaughter, Haley Solomon, granddaughter, Li Solomon, daughter Marjorie Solomon, grandson, Parker Solomon and his wife Margaret Alanna Hall Solomon, grandson, Hutchison “Hutch” Solomon-Stewart, Gordon W. Stewart, niece, Lasca Fogle-Asp and her husband Charles Asp, nephew Charles Dierke and his wife Lynn, nephew Bobby Solomon and his wife Elmera Solomon, Niece Barbara Ann Solomon Sullivan and her husband Greg Sullivan, nephew Jason Solomon, nephew Glendon Solomon and his wife Roz Solomon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home with visitation being held 30 minuets prior to the service.
