Roll Call Tribute

Tamara "Tammy" Otts '93 December 17, 2025 10:10 AM updated: December 17, 2025 10:15 AM

Tamara Renee Otts

February 5, 1970 - June 14, 2022

Tammy, age 52, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on June 14th, 2022, at MD Anderson after a courageous battle with Breast Cancer.

Tammy was born February 5, 1970, in Houston, TX to Delores and Melvin Williams. Tammy and her sister Jacque were mainly raised in Houston.

Tammy and Russell met in the Summer of 1990 while attending Texas A&M University and both working at a local Mexican restaurant - Casa Tomas. They were married in December 1992.

Tammy graduated college from Texas A&M in 1993 with an education degree and moved back to Cypress, TX. After beginning her career in public education and then taking time off to raise her kids, Tammy's path led her to a Christian ministry. Tammy started as a preschool teacher at the Lamb School in Cypress Texas. After Tammy's kids got older, she transitioned to an elementary teaching role at Cypress Christian where she taught and nurtured children for the past 10+ years.

Tammy was a mother of 3; Haley (24), Kara (20) and Trevor (18).

Tammy loved to read and travel in her spare time. She was hardly ever without an unopened book and would take trips anytime she could. She was also passionate about music. She always had KSBJ playing in her car no matter the destination.

Tammy loved coffee. This was an acquired taste for her. Initially, she liked all the flavors but after three kids and a husband she settled into about 2-3 cups per day of Pike Place with a splash of cream. She also collected a number of interesting coffee mugs along the years which filled the cabinets far too full for one family. We never threw them away unless one "accidentally" broke.

Tammy has always been a fighter. For 13 years she battled Breast Cancer. She endured various chemo treatments, radiation, and surgical excision of the tumor. Regardless of treatment and symptoms, she always put other needs before her own. She always had an open home taking care of other people's kids as well as her own, especially during the summer.

Tammy's life was cut way too short but the days she had on this earth were filled with love, joy, and faith. She has taught us how to remain faithful rather than fearful when obstacles arise.
