Thomas Michael "Tom" Niermeyer
September 22, 1965 - September 20, 2025
If Tom could write his own tribute, it might begin with a joke, a sarcastic one-liner, or a reminder not to cry too much (he always hated that). But he would make sure it also said how deeply he loved his family and friends, and how much they meant to him every single day.
After a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer, Thomas Michael Niermeyer passed away peacefully at home on the 20th of September 2025, just two days shy of his 60th birthday. We are heartbroken to say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Tom was born on the 22nd of September 1965, in Rochester, New York, to Richard and Linda (Fredericks) Niermeyer. He spent his early years playing baseball, soccer, football (basically anything with a ball!), causing mischief with his brother Tim, and delighting in pranks involving his sister and brother, Amy and John. The family later moved to Houston, Texas, where Tom attended Cypress Creek High School and met lifelong friends who remained close throughout his life.
A proud Texas Aggie, Tom graduated from Texas A&M University in 1987 with a BBA in Marketing. He launched a successful career in sales and management, beginning at Kodak before spending many years at BMC Software. After retiring, Tom continued to lend his expertise as a consultant and mentor, helping to create success, promote careers and build lasting friendships along the way.
The stars truly aligned when Tom met the love of his life, Sarah Steffee. They married in her hometown of Richmond, Texas on the 5th of October 1996, and built a beautiful life together over the next 29 years, filled with adventure, laughter, and love. Together they raised three amazing children, Jack Thomas, Megan Elizabeth, and Sadie Grace, who were the center of his world.
Tom brought energy, humor, and heart to everything he did. A devoted Astros fan and loyal Aggie, he never missed a game, whether it was baseball or football. He was an incredible cook, known for hosting family holidays and gatherings where he would recreate recipes (purely by taste) and usually make them better. Weekends often found him in his yard, out on a run, coaching youth teams (WUSA and WULL), or sharing laughter with friends over a glass of wine and a competitive card game, where he never went easy on anyone.
He was a man of strong traditions and even stronger relationships. He made everyone feel like family and lived with authenticity, generosity, and purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and unforgettable one-liners.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Sarah, and their children: Jack, Megan, and Sadie. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Linda Niermeyer; his brother Tim Niermeyer and wife Teresa of Dallas along with their children, Blair (Katlyn), Brittany (Alex Leitnick); his sister Amy Amodio and husband Stephen of Houston, and their children Natalie and Nathan (Karla); and his niece Kirby Niermeyer of Houston.
He is preceded in death by his brother, John David Niermeyer.
