Roll Call Tribute

Robert "Bob" Hedrick '50 November 13, 2025 1:21 PM updated: November 13, 2025 1:35 PM

Robert Lew Hedrick

January 12, 1929 - October 25, 2025

Robert Lew Hedrick, 96, of Houston Texas, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025. Born on January 12, 1929 in Joplin, Missouri, Bob was the only child of Christopher Cantwell Hedrick and Helen Becker Hedrick. Bob’s mother, Helen, passed away when Bob was four years old. His stepmother, Virginia, later joined the family and raised Bob with his father in San Antonio, TX.

Bob would later attend Texas A&M University, Class of 1950, where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Bob served in the Army of the United States, stationed in Korea, from 1951-1953, and would remain in touch with his “brothers” of “Battery B” and college roommates until his death. In 1969, after working with American Standard, Bob joined with his partners to establish and build Kinetic Engineering Corporation, a manufacturer’s representative and stocking distributor of custom-designed heat exchangers. Bob worked until he was 86 years old stating that he enjoyed what he did and the people he worked with in the business.

With his first wife of 21 years, Betty, he had 3 children. Five years following his divorce, on April 22, 1978, he married Barbara Beyer Hedrick and was very happily married 47 years upon his passing. Together they raised her four children as well.

Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting, travelling the world with the love of his life, Barbara and the Travelling Aggies group, enjoying celebrations and dinners with his family, and watching sports of all kinds. He especially loved watching college sports, but most especially his “Fightin’ Texas Aggies”!

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, his children, Robert Hedrick (Susan), Chris Hedrick (Pam), and Heidi Hussey (Warren), and his step-children, Tom Barton (Jon), Colleen Blair (Robert), Michelle Ackley (Mark - deceased), and Brad Barton (Kyleene) as well as 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. Gifts received will be applied to the General Memorial, account, 400-33198. Please designate gifts “In Memory of Mr. Robert Lew "Bob" Hedrick '50” in the memo line of the check.
