Harry L. McMenemy, Jr.

September 27, 1931 - October 24, 2025

Harry L. McMenemy, Jr., 94, of Sugar Tree, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 24, 2025, at the Decatur County Health Care and Rehabilitation Facility in Parsons, Tennessee.

Harry was born on September 27, 1931, in Houston, Texas, the son of Harry L. and Bernice (Boldin) McMenemy, Sr. He was the eldest of five children. At age 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War. His bravery earned him the Purple Heart Medal, Korean Service Medal with one star, United Nations Service Medal, and the Bronze Star.

After returning home, Harry met Carol Utley on a blind date in Houston, Texas. They married soon after and celebrated 65 years of marriage this past July. At age 28, Harry decided to pursue a college degree, graduating from Texas A&M University in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in Entomology. He became the first entomologist hired by the Texas Prison System and later joined Bayer/Miles Corporation in 1964, where he rose through the ranks to retire 30 years later as Technical Regional Manager for the Southwest Region.

In 1994, Harry and Carol made their permanent home on the Tennessee River, where they enjoyed life on their beloved "Ponderosa." He was deeply committed to his community, serving on the Ponderosa Property Owners Association Board for 23 years in several leadership roles. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping design and build a helicopter pad to aid emergency response in the rural area-an initiative that went on to help many, including himself after a few mishaps.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his beloved son, Trey, and his sister, Wilda.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol McMenemy; daughter, Beth Soucy, and her husband, Jean; sister, Natalie Farquhar; brothers, Bud McMenemy and Ed McMenemy (Jo Anna); and many cherished nieces and nephews who will all remember him with love.

A private family service will be held. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Those who wish to honor Harry's memory may make contributions to the WD "Bill" Manning Tennessee State Veterans' Home in Humboldt, Tennessee.
