Robert Douglas "Doug" Smallwood, Lt.Col. USAF (Ret)
April 27, 1942 - October 23, 2025
Robert Douglas Smallwood, age 83, passed away on October 23, 2025, in Lakeway, Tx. The son of Jasper Braxton Smallwood and Lillie Mae (Chaney) Smallwood, he was born and raised in Utopia, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1964 and St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1970.
"Doug" married his wife, Patricia Ruth (Long) Smallwood, in 1965 and together they had two sons. Doug is survived by his wife of sixty years, his son Robert (Rob) and wife Barbara, son Randall (Randy) and wife Melissa, and five grandchildren: Noah, Matthew, Nicholas, Jacob, and Madison.
Doug was part of the "computer revolution" and worked in the IT field for various companies in San Antonio and Houston until 2005. Additionally, Doug served in the United States Air Force on active duty and in the reserves from 1966-2002, almost 36 years.
He served in many local civic associations: Lion's Club, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts and Electrical Inspector for the City of Garden Ridge, Texas. He also enjoyed taking part in local Veteran Memorial activities.
Doug's favorite pastimes were spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and he always had a "project" car or two that was never quite finished.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Ebensberger- Fisher Funeral Home, 1265 N Main Street in Boerne, TX at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Waresville Cemetery in Utopia, Texas at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations benefitting wounded veterans and their families may be made to The Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org).
