Lawrence Madison Vaughan 

February 16, 1926 - June 21, 2025 

Lawrence Madison Vaughan, of Overton, Texas, passed away on June 21, 2025, in Overton. He was born on February 16, 1926, in Johntown, Texas, to the late Avret and Mamie Vaughan.

Funeral services for Lawrence Madison Vaughan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, Texas. Visitation services for family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home in Overton, Texas. A Military Honors Burial will be at 3 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Bogata Cemetery in Bogata, Texas.

Lawrence Vaughan, a dedicated County and District Agricultural Agent with Texas A&M University and was a proud Texas A&M graduate, was a cherished member of numerous professional and civic organizations. He was active in the Brazoria County Cattleman’s Association, served as Brazoria County Fair President, the Texas A&M Former Students Association, and was a committed member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Overton, Texas. Lawrence also served his community as an Overton City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem.

He was known for his deep commitment to family, his unwavering faith and devotion to God, and his lifelong devotion to public and community service. Lawrence believed strongly in education and was an excellent judge of character. Those who knew him remember his dependability, his patriotism, and his warm sense of humor. Lawrence had a natural gift for carpentry and woodworking, and enjoyed working with his hands, often using his skills to serve others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and service.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Helen Louise Watts Vaughan, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Steven L. Vaughan and wife, Patsy; Mathew (Amanda): Preston, Katie, and Landon; Kelley Vaughan Barnes (Keary): Avery, Ella and Owen; and Rebecca Vaughan Willis (Chase): Gavin and Claire. Deborah L. Norton and Mike Bransford, Lawren Norton (Manning): Caroline; Lissa Cherry (Mike): Bella and Michael and Max Norton (Stacie): Brodie and Baylen. Susan A. Matthews and husband, Joe Marshall Linscomb; and Lindsey Linscomb: Tessa and Jax. Lawrence is also survived by his siblings: Eleanor Crawford, and Mary Ann Ward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Avret and Mamie Vaughan, his brothers Harley Vaughan, Kenneth Vaughan and Avret Lynn Vaughan, and his nephew, Eddie Thomas and niece, Janie Thomas Young.

He will forever be in our hearts.

He leaves behind a wife of 79 years, 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton, Texas.
