Oliver Raymond Jewell
June 27, 1931 - May 22, 2025
Raymond Jewell joined his beloved wife Jeanneen in heaven May 22, 2025. He reached the ripe old age of 93 years, only a month and 4 days short of 94. Raymond was born on June 27, 1931 in Athens, Texas, son of Bill and Eula Jewell and 1 of 5 children. Raymond graduated from Athens High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was stationed in the U.S. and Japan. He returned from the service, married Jeanneen and attended and graduated from Texas A&M University.
Raymond and Jeanneen married on September 2, 1956. They lived in Longview, Texas for 50+ years where they raised two daughters, Raeneen & Tammy. Prior to Longview they lived in College Station, Athens, Tyler, and Waco. In 2023, they moved to North Richland Hills to be closer to their girls.
Raymond was a valued employee at Jewell Concrete Products and retired in 1995. He decided he wasn’t quite ready to relax and went back to work at Sherwin Williams until his 2nd retirement. Raymond volunteered in the community as a Boy Scout Leader, participated in Citizens Patrol and Neighborhood Watch and worked at Longview Christian Ministries. He was always actively involved at the churches he attended, serving as an elder, working on buildings, cooking and much more. Raymond’s passion was nurturing plants and his yard. He loved growing a variety of cacti and other unusual plants as well as common ones. Raymond loved sharing his plants with friends & family.
Raymond Jewell was a devoted father to Raeneen Temprine (Luke) and Tammy Mandel (Frank). He was an adoring PawPaw to Kelsey Temprine Grellinger (Adam), Kyle Temprine, Scott Mandel and Lara Mandel. He was a beloved brother to Elmer Jewell (Virginia) and Rena Bumgardner (Art) and a much-loved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by Jeanneen, his wife of 68 years, his parents Bill and Eula Jewell, brother William Henry Jewell and sister Mary Alice Haas. Raymond was known for working hard and was always willing to lend a hand to help others. He had a life well lived and his memory will live on in the hearts of those that loved him.
A Celebration of Life for the Friends and Family of Raymond Jewell will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11am at Longview Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
