Samuel "Sam" Lopez
November 1, 1933 - August 25, 2025
Sam Lopez, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on November 1, 1933, in Caldwell, Texas, Sam lived a life full of purpose, service, and love.
After serving honorably in the United States Army, Sam followed his passion for education, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University in 1959. He later completed a Master’s degree from the University of the Incarnate Word. These achievements marked the beginning of a long and meaningful career in education.
For 35 years, Sam shared his love of language and culture as a Spanish teacher at Lee High School in the North East Independent School District. His enthusiasm for teaching extended well beyond the classroom. He spent more than a decade teaching evening courses at San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, and St. Philip’s College, helping countless students grow and succeed.
Sam’s heart for service reached far beyond education. He was a faithful member of San Pedro Church of Christ for over 30 years, where he served as an elder and took part in many aspects of church life. He taught Bible classes, worked joyfully in the outreach ministry, and drove the “Joy Bus” to bring children and families to church. These were not just responsibilities to Sam; they were ministries he embraced with deep love and commitment.
Family was the foundation of Sam’s life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Santos Lopez, his son Robert Wayne Lopez, his brothers Joel and James Lopez, and his sister Ann Vivero. Though he experienced loss, Sam’s life was filled with the warmth of a large and loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie B. Lopez, and their daughters Susie Youngblood and her husband Steve, and Melissa Knebel, and Danny Knebel. He was a proud grandfather to Aimee Huebner (Tyler), Bryce Youngblood (Meaghan), Britton Youngblood (Madison), Sydney Knebel, and Laura Comer, and a joyful great-grandfather to Beckham and Brooks Huebner.
Sam is also lovingly remembered by his brothers Augustin Lopez, Lupe Lopez, and Aris Lopez, his sister Ester Ramirez, and many nieces and nephews who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Those who knew Sam will remember him as a man of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and genuine kindness. His steady presence, thoughtful words, and deep love for his family and community will be missed more than words can say.
Sam Lopez lived a life that truly mattered. His impact will be felt for generations to come.
