Robert Kenneth "Bob" McCarty
March 10, 1932 - December 9, 2023
Robert Kenneth (Bob) McCarty, 91, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by friends and family. He was born March 10, 1932, to Ernest and Violet McCarty in Burke, Texas.
Bob grew up in Burke, near Diboll, and played football at Texas A&M University. He later served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, surviving 6 months as a Prisoner of War. He spent most of his professional life working at DOW Chemical as a plant manager, retiring after 30 years in March of 1990. Even in his retirement, Bob never really “retired” due to his many hobbies, pastimes, and passions. His enthusiasm for racing pigeons and desire to help others blessed him with friends from all over the globe.
Bob spent his free time outdoors; coaching youth sports, hunting, fishing, and growing okra. His entrepreneurial mindset led to him founding several successful businesses. His philanthropy was evidenced by his stewardship to the Methodist Church and its mission to assist those in need.
Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Dorothy Jo McCarty, his grandson, Mark Stewart and fiancé, Sabrina Sturm, granddaughter Shannon Stewart, and grandson Justin Stewart; his son-in-law, Steven Stewart, and fiancé, Melinda White, and close family, Rosemary and John Berry, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ernestine Shows, and his three children, Mark McCarty, Jodie Stewart, and Matt McCarty.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2023 at First Methodist Church in Rosenberg. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas.
