Leslie Robert "Les" Blanchett

July 8, 1946 - June 11, 2025

Leslie “Les” Robert Blanchett, of Victoria, Texas, a loving father, husband and friend, born July 8, 1946 in Dodge City, Kansas passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on June 11, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel Robert Blanchett and Arlene Blanchett. Les is survived by his beloved wife Jane Minetree Blanchett of Victoria, Texas. They were married for more than 56 years and loved each other dearly. He is survived by his daughter Amy Blanchett of Point Comfort, Texas; his sons Joshua Blanchett (Josey) of New Braunfels, Texas; and Matthew Blanchett of Brevard, North Carolina; his sister Carolyn Snyder (Charlie) of Conway, Arkansas; brother Bruce Blanchett (Darla) of Anna, Illinois; brother-in-law John Minetree of Victoria, Texas; as well as a niece Charlotte Minetree Hummel (Chris) of Victoria, Texas; nephew Gabe Snyder (Melissa) of Aurora, Colorado; and two grandsons Max Blanchett and Eli Blanchett of New Braunfels, Texas.

Les was known for his sense of humor, gift of conversation and love of family and friends. He found joy in watching his beloved Texas A&M Aggies (Class of ’69), fishing the Texas coast and playing golf with friends. A faithful and loving husband, he and his wife Jane were long-time members of Faith Family Church where they regularly attended and volunteered.

Les retired from Dow Chemical Company and Union Carbide after a long career as a lab analyst. He was more popularly known throughout the community as “Dr. Freeze”, a name he assumed through Dow’s educational outreach program he helped create and participated in for over 25 years that brought education and awareness to Victoria and the surrounding area through scientific demonstrations.

Prior to working in the chemical industry, Les taught science classes at schools within the Victoria Independent School District, Victory Christian School (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Devereux Behavioral Health and Bryan High School where he also coached football under Merrill Green.

The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Mercy House Victoria and Hospice of South Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Power Avenue Warehouse, 402 E. Power Avenue, Victoria, Texas 77901.
