November 28, 1928 - May 23, 2025
Phillip Wells McDaniel III, 96, of Houston, Texas, died on May 23, 2025. He was born in Crossett, Arkansas on November 29, 1928 to Phillip Wells McDaniel Jr. and Elizabeth Rhodes McDaniel.
Phillip graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. Later, he became certified in geological and petroleum engineering. He served in the United States Army, 45th infantry division as a lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Hughes Tool Company and Conoco before becoming an independent oil operator.
Phillip married Mary Jane Carothers in 1960. He was very active in the Presbyterian church serving as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and chaired many different church committees. He was also very involved in community and public service throughout the city of Houston.
Phillip is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Jane; two daughters, Melissa Neumann and husband Keith of Hondo, Texas, and Molly McDaniel of College Station, Texas; two brothers, Terry Pat McDaniel and wife Shannon of Austin, Texas, Stephen Walter McDaniel of College Station, Texas; two grandsons, Garrett Neumann and wife Madisyn, Preston Neumann and wife Hannah; one great-grandson, Luke Neumann; one great-granddaughter Hallie Neumann; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, 2:00 pm at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 4807 San Felipe, Houston, Texas.
