William Earl "Bill" Godfrey, Jr.

July 30, 1946 - July 8, 2025

William “Bill” Earl Godfrey, Jr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at his home in Woodstown, NJ surrounded by his family. Born on July 30, 1946 in Vineland to the late William Earl Godfrey, Sr. and Anne Loth Godfrey, Bill grew up in Clayton and attended St. Bridget’s Elementary School. He was a 1964 graduate of Augusta Military Academy in Virginia. Following graduation, Bill served in the United States Air Force with top secret security clearance as a sergeant. He graduated with his BBA from Texas A&M University in 1974, and received his MBA from Northwestern University in 1976.

Bill worked as an accountant at Leesburg State Prison, assistant business manager at the Katzenbach School for the Deaf, was the executive director for the initial operation, organization and construction of The Salem County Utilities Authority, and was the business manager for the Devereux Foundation. Bill spent many years volunteering for Woodstown athletics, including youth senior league baseball and wrestling, and the high school wrestling program. He also enjoyed cheering on the Woodstown High School football team. Bill was an avid Texas A&M Aggies supporter and Philadelphia Eagles fan.

The role Bill excelled at most was as “Pop.” He was the biggest supporter of his grandkids and loved watching and hearing about all their achievements. Gathering at Pop’s for the annual 4th of July parade was a treasured tradition.

Bill will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Tori and Ryan Dixon, of Pilesgrove; sons Christopher Scott Godfrey (Aline) and Michael Godfrey of Natchitoches, Louisiana; grandchildren Ryley, Reese, Remy and Rowan Dixon, and Andrew and Gabby Godfrey; step-sons Roger (Shelly), Scott (Raechelle) and Jon (Jenai) Walker; step-grandchildren Bella, Eric, Ty, Delaney, Evy, Gwen and Lauren Walker; and his “surrogate son” David Burbage.

Bill was a great listener to many, and he will be incredibly missed by those who loved him. Bill wants to send a special thank you to his care team of doctors and nurses, as well as Rose Moran, Erin Hitchner and Sue Hill for their kindness. He has requested private arrangements with no formal gathering. Instead, he would like his friends to have a drink in his honor and to remember him fondly. Arrangements are by the H.T. Layton Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Woodstown.
