Roll Call Tribute

Arthur "John" Fineout II '81 July 9, 2025 3:22 PM updated: July 9, 2025 3:37 PM

Arthur John Fineout, II

November 6, 1955 - May 27, 2025

Arthur John Fineout II was born November 6th, 1955, in McKinney, TX to Arthur John Fineout and Virginia Ellen Fineout. John grew up in Terrell, TX as the firstborn son to a Baptist minister, serving in the church and running the soundboard from the age of six. He was a leader in his community and school, playing football, basketball, baseball, and running track. John was a dedicated student with a perfect attendance record for twelve years, senior class president of Terrell High School, a member of the student council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 1974, John graduated from Terrell High School and attended East Texas Baptist University, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry before attending Texas A&M and receiving a degree in Chemical Engineering. John started his MBA but was eager to join the workforce and his head had been turned by his sister’s college roommate––Angela Fairbetter. After years of friendship, John and Angela tied the knot in 1984, married by John’s dad, Art, in Angela’s hometown of Abilene, TX.

John and Angela spent their first decade of marriage focused on building their careers, growing in their walks with Christ, and creating a home together. During these early years before kids, John and Angela began developing the gift of hospitality, making their home a place people could gather to be fed, feel loved, and experience fellowship. Even though John had multiple degrees, worked for numerous companies, and held many high-level positions throughout his long career, his favorite title was “Dad.” John and Angela were blessed with two daughters Ashton and Aubrey. From an early age, John instilled in his daughters the love of music, creativity, and critical thinking. He championed their successes and encouraged his girls to pursue excellence in their giftings.

John was an avid musician, always keeping an instrument within arm’s reach. Music brought John joy like no other, especially when he was creating music with others. John collected guitars, keyboards, drums, and all manner of stringed instruments, proudly displaying his favorites in his “music room.” He was often known to loan out instruments, generously encouraging others in their musical efforts. John was also a keen problem solver, continuously searching for ways to think outside the box. Cycling was another passion of John’s. He could be found on his bike in every season, pushing to meet his 14 miles-a-day goal.

Over the course of his life, John had an ongoing desire to understand theology, grow in his faith, and to serve at his church, Countryside Bible. While listening to sermons, John could often be seen typing every word on his iPad, adding his own additional commentary in the margins. John and Angela prioritized hosting fellowship groups and Bible studies, using their home and resources as a ministry to family, friends, and strangers. John also mentored young men, including his son-in-law, Brad, and was a steadfast brother to many.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Angela, daughters, Ashton and Aubrey, and son-in-law, Brad Watts, as well as mother, Virginia Fineout, sister, Ellen Fineout-Overholt, brother-in-law, Wayne Overholt, nieces, Ruth and Rachael Overholt, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. John peacefully passed from this earth on May 27th, 2025, shortly after being diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. John’s homegoing has left a tremendous void in our family, but even in his last days, he spoke of the hope he had in Christ to many of his caregivers and visitors in the hospital. We look forward to the day we will all be reunited in glory.
