William Preston Powers, Jr., 63, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Sugar Land. Born on March 7, 1962 to William Preston Powers and Mary Powers, William lived a life marked by intellectual curiosity, a fulfilling career, and a passion for diverse interests.
William earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Texas A&M University, a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning. For the past 25 years, he worked for the University of Houston-Clear Lake where he served for the majority of this time as the esteemed Director of the TDCJ Program, where he made a significant impact on countless lives.
Beyond his professional achievements, William was known for his love of music, cinema, his culinary skills in the kitchen, and his joy for gardening. He found excitement in Formula One racing and was a sports fan. William will be remembered for his humorous spirit and his well-educated mind, qualities that enriched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alvinice Oliveira Powers; his cherished son, Jared Powers; and his brother, Anthony Preston Powers.
