George Wesley "Wes" West
December 14, 1970 - June 10, 2025
George Wesley “Wes” West, aged 54, passed away in his home in College Station June 10, 2025. Wes was a devoted father and educator.
Wes was born on December 14, 1970, to George William West and Joyce Arnett West in Austin, Texas. He spent his childhood in Georgetown, where he played soccer and spent summers traveling the U.S. with his dad and brother as part of the Starcraft Camper Club. Wes proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout before graduating from Georgetown High School.
Wes loved history, music, reading, collecting and teaching. On most days, he could manage to combine two of his favorite things, and on a very good day or an impromptu field trip with Reagan and Emma he could check every box, sharing his love for history with his two favorite students, stopping to read every single placard or museum label at length and never missing a trip to the souvenir shop to secure his own personal piece of history.
There wasn’t a sport Wes didn’t love as long as the Fightin’ Texas Aggies were playing, but Aggie Football and Baseball were the only seasons he changed his wardrobe for. His taste for music ran from Maiden to Willie to SRV, and he shared his musical talents with both his children.
Wes found his calling in teaching through the turns of life and taught special education for 15 years in College Station, Bryan, Magnolia and Huntsville ISDs. He made friends throughout his life and kept up relationships with many from childhood, college and his adult life.
Wes is survived by his two children, Reagan William West (College Station) and Emma Catharine West (currently of Jura, France), his brother Geoffrey William West (Jessica, Georgetown), his mother, nephews and many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.
His family would like to thank the many people who supported and loved Wes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the National Alliance to End Homelessness or Boys Scouts of America.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date when his daughter has returned home from France.
