Arleigh Bruce Hughes 

March 15, 1930 - April 27, 2025 

Arleigh Bruce Hughes (born March 15, 1930 in San Marcos, TX,  died April 27, 2025 in Olympia, WA) of Pukalani, Maui was a dedicated Blood Bank of Hawaii Super Donor who taught microbiology at Maui Community College for twenty-seven years, having first received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, earned his PhD from Texas A&M University, and assisted with virology research at Baylor Medical School.

Bruce built and piloted his own two-seat airplane and volunteered for "fly-ins," air races, and other philanthropic causes. He enjoyed studying genealogy, reading, ham radio (KH6HA), and watching football and movies.

Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife Ima Gene (Harrell) and son Kenneth Arlie Hughes, and is survived by: his wife Una "Candy" Hughes of Maui and Washington state, and son James Hughes, grandchildren Jenelle (née Hughes) (Jeffrey) Agas and Jordan Hughes, and great-grandchildren Bennett Agas and Wyatt Agas, all of Kauai, Hawaii.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, Bruce's favorite charities included, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Lanai Cat Sanctuary.
