Deborah Kay "Debbie" (Lindsey) Melton
November 17, 1950 - June 21, 2025
Deborah Kay Lindsey Melton, wife, mother, homemaker, prayer warrior and friend, passed away on June 21, 2025. Debbie was born on November 17, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. James “Jim” Lindsey. After graduating from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station in 1969, she attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1973. During her time at Texas A&M University she met Charles Thomas Melton from Sallisaw, Oklahoma, who she married on May 27, 1972.
For 53 years she followed Charles all over Texas from the Red River to the Rio Grande Valley to the Texas Panhandle and even up to Salina, Kansas in 1989. After more than 10 years away from Texas, Charles and Debbie moved to Temple, Texas in 2000, where they sank roots in the community they call home. Along the way and over the thousands of miles, she helped raise two sets of twin boys.
Debbie devoted her life to making a home for her sons and her husband through serving others and seldom asking for anything or doing anything for herself. She was a friend to everyone who met her, and a true prayer warrior, who devoted herself to praying for others and writing cards and letters to friends, relatives, and other loved ones each morning before she went about the rest of her day.
Even as her health began failing Debbie Melton made home a safe place of refuge for her husband and her sons when they returned home to visit. Homecooked meals were always on the table, and when her boys were away, she sent them care packages filled with cookies and other baked goodies.
Debbie loved her many colorful hats, which she proudly wore as she hugged everyone she met, friend and stranger alike. She never met a stranger, and anyone who had the privilege of meeting her knew she had a heart of gold and loved them just as they were. Even with her last breath on Earth, her family and loved ones knew she was praying for them, because that’s just who she was.
Debbie Melton passed away on June 21, 2025, at 74 years of age. She was preceded by her parents, a sister, Sherry Lindsey, and a grandson, Timothy Aaron Melton. Debbie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Thomas Melton, and four sons, Charles Howard of Silver Springs, Md., Paul David of New York City, N.Y,, James Andrew of Benbrook, Texas and his wife, Melissa, and John Mark of Dallas, Texas and his wife, Amanda, and four grandchildren, CJ Melton of Port Orchard, Washington, Mark and Hannah Melton of Dallas, Texas, and Ethan Melton of Benbrook, Texas.
