Raymond Charles "Ray" Turner
April 13, 1950 - March 19, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Charles Turner, 74, on Saturday, March 19, 2025. He was born to parents Raymond Turner and Mary Louise Turner, on April 13, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas.
Ray attended St. Ann’s Elementary School, Horace Mann Junior High School, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1968. He went on to study and play football at Texas A&M. He left A&M in 1969 to enter the electrical union and took on a 30-plus year career as an electrician. After he hung up his tool belt, he spent several years as an insurance adjuster in Boerne and even made time to become a certified volleyball referee. But perhaps his longest tenure was around the barbecue pit, cooking for friends and family. He loved to feed a crowd — especially with his brisket or homemade “pan de campo.” In addition to all things barbecue, Ray loved to dance, and he made friends at dance halls from San Antonio to Florida and many places in between.
Though born and raised in San Antonio, Ray spent 20 years as a resident of Floresville, where he raised his two children. After that, he moved back to San Antonio for a few years before eventually settling in Boerne in 2009, where he lived until his stroke in 2021. His final years were spent in a residential care home in Austin.
Raymond was previously married to Connie (York) Turner. He is survived by their two children, Regan Christopher Turner of Austin and Lorrie Macy (Josh) of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren Levi Turner Macy and Quinn Olivia Macy; his loving sister, Patricia DeVeau (Dan) of San Antonio; and countless Martin family cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sisterdale Dance Hall in Kendall County on Friday, April 25, 2025 beginning at 5:30 p.m. A dinner and dance will follow at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Texas Dance Hall Preservation Society at texasdancehall.org.
