Roy Wilshire '62 June 23, 2025 2:41 PM updated: November 24, 2025 11:14 AM

Roy Leon Wilshire

April 16, 1937 - June 15, 2025

Roy Leon Wilshire – dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend - went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Roy was born in Everman, Texas in 1937. He graduated from Mansfield High School as the senior class Valedictorian, and he was named Senior Class Favorite by his peers. Roy earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in from The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M University) and a Master of Science in Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Roy married his high school sweetheart, Carol, in 1957. They were happily married just shy of 68 years. At the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary, Roy said the key to their marriage was “a strong faith with absolute and total love for each other, and a shared commitment that we would make it against all odds.”

Roy had a long and very successful career as a civil engineer, one in which he was well respected and admired. During college, he worked with the Texas Transportation Institute. After college, he worked for the City of Wichita Falls as their traffic engineer before starting his own consulting company. That company grew and eventually merged with Kimley-Horn where Roy worked for thirty years. Roy truly loved the work that he did throughout his career. At the age of 81, Roy retired from Kimley-Horn and began his retirement years by traveling the countryside with Carol to visit their grandchildren.

In addition to his career as a civil engineer, Roy had a parallel career with the U.S Army Reserves. He served his country faithfully for 32 years. He loved the reserves and was very dedicated to it. He advanced quickly with his promotions, holding every rank from private to colonel.

Roy and Carol were devoted members of The Heights Church since 1969, where he served on numerous committees and as a deacon for many years. He loved his church and serving the body of Christ. His faith carried him through the mountaintops and valleys of life, holding steadfast to the hope that only his Lord and Savior could provide.

Roy is survived by his wife, Carol. Surviving children include son Mark and daughter Andi. Daughter Nerissa and son Stephen preceded Roy in death. Roy is also survived by his twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their many games, concerts, and events to cheer them on.

Roy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who all rejoice in knowing that he is in his heavenly home, where there is no more pain and suffering.
