Thomas "Tom" Brendel '76 June 12, 2025 6:03 PM updated: June 12, 2025 6:10 PM

Thomas Patrick "Tom" Brendel

September 20, 1954 - April 12, 2025

Thomas Patrick Brendel, of Comfort, Texas, passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 70. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 20, 1954, Tom lived a life full of hard work, humor, music, and love.

Tom attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos before transferring to Texas A&M University in College Station, where he proudly graduated an Aggie with a degree in Wildlife and Fishery Sciences in 1976. His education reflected his deep appreciation for the land and his lifelong connection to nature.

Over the years, Tom built a rich and varied career. He began in medical sales with Mead Johnson in Houston, then returned to San Antonio where he worked in real estate. Most recently, Tom served as ranch manager - affectionately known as "Sheriff Tom" - for the Stasis Foundation in Comfort, Texas—a role that perfectly suited his love of the outdoors and working with his hands.

Tom wore many hats throughout his life—businessman, ranch hand, proud father and grandfather—but his favorite roles were always the ones spent with family. Whether he was raising goats on the farm, tinkering with guitars he lovingly collected, or spending time with his grandsons, Tom filled his days with joy, curiosity, and connection. He loved hosting friends and family on the farm, always ready with a story, a classic rock tune playing in the background, and a warm laugh that made everyone feel at home.

He is deeply missed by his daughter, Jennifer Morris, and son-in-law, Shane Morris; his son, Christopher Brendel, and daughter-in-law, Claire Brendel; his grandsons, Ethan Morris, Eoin Brendel, and Eamonn Brendel; his brother, William "Butch" Brendel and his wife, Kathy Brendel; as well as many beloved nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Services are entrusted to Cabrera Funeral Home in San Antonio.

Tom’s legacy of generosity, humor, and unwavering love for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
