Steven Wypiszynski '72 June 6, 2025 2:01 PM updated: June 6, 2025 2:14 PM

Steven Wypiszynski, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret)

January 28, 1948 - October 19, 2013

“Life is not a goal, it is a road you travel on.” – Steven Wypiszynski

Steven Wypiszynski was born in California on January 28, 1948 to Daniel and Evelyn Wypiszynski. Steven graduated from Berkley with a BS in Chemistry and then from Texas A&M with a MS in Computer Science in 1972. Steven then entered the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. He married Therese Ahn in 1976.

Steven served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years as a Civil Engineer living in Thailand, Virginia, Korea, and Ohio. He retired from the military in 1998 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then lived in Beavercreek, Ohio working as a defense contractor at Wright Patterson Air Force Base until 2012 when he moved to San Diego, California to be closer to family. He worked at QinetiQ as the Principal Database Engineer until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2013.

Steven loved See’s Candy, chocolate chip cookies, Russian tea cakes and his family very much. He relished reading, enjoyed learning and was known as the hardest worker on any team. But no matter how tired or how busy he was he always made time for family, because family was his top priority and it showed in the way he lived his life.

Steven is survived by his wife Therese; and three children: Daniel, of Royal Oak, MI; Therese, of Beavercreek, OH; Angela, of San Diego, CA; and two grandchildren. He also is survived by his father, Daniel Wypiszynski and his half-brother, Edwin Gunderson.

Funeral service will be held at 9:30am October 29, 2013 at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church 4077 Ibis St. San Diego. Burial will follow at 11:15am Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Nobel Dr. San Diego.
