Edward Wardlaw Stasney, Sr.

August 10, 1941 - March 30, 2025

Edward Wardlaw Stasney, born on August 10, 1941, in Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025.

Edward's early years were marked by extraordinary achievements. He became an Eagle Scout and graduated high school with distinction. His passion for tennis led him to Tarleton State Junior College, where he won the 1960 Junior College National Doubles title. He later served in the U.S. Army, continuing to shine in tennis. Edward then furthered his education at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1969 as an architectural engineer and serving in leadership roles, including on the President’s Council.

On November 21, 1973, Edward married the love of his life, Suzanne, and adopted her two beautiful daughters. In 1975, their journey took them to Tehran, Iran, where Edward worked with Brown & Root as the chief estimator for the Chabahar Naval Base in the Persian Gulf. Upon their return to Houston, they welcomed their son, Ed Stasney, Jr., in September 1977.

Edward's professional career was both impactful and dynamic. He oversaw offshore drilling materials and transportation for Pemex at the Port of Galveston and later worked on prominent projects, including the Superconducting Super Collider in Dallas and DART's light rail system. His career also led him to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he managed the Tren Urbano light rail system.

Edward’s lifelong love for tennis never wavered, as he held leadership roles at Wimbledon Estates Tennis Club and earned numerous tournament victories. In retirement, Edward pursued a passion for psychology, earning a Master’s degree from Abilene Christian University in 2001. He devoted his time to teaching blended family classes and leading state-mandated programs such as Batterer Intervention and Prevention and anger management workshop.

Edward’s life was a testament to his commitment to God, family, his work, and his community. A man of resilience, service, and compassion, his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the enduring memories shared by his family and friends. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Suzanne Mitchell Stasney; daughters, Kelly Stasney Howell and Donna Stasney Long (Michael Jack Long); son, Edward Wardlaw Stasney, Jr. (Laura Stasney); and eight beloved grandchildren: Laurel Howell, Caroline Howell, Jason Long, Katherine Long, Sabrina Long, Samantha Long, Edward Wardlaw Stasney, III, and Sean Stasney. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Stasney Pierce (Ken Pierce), and in-laws, Beverly Mitchell Bright (Warren Bright). Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Malcorine Wardlaw Stasney; father, Edward Worth Stasney; sister-in-law, Marji Mitchell Hill; and brother-in-law, Michael Hill.

Celebration of life will be held May 21, 2025 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
