Robert Stanley "Stan" Cannon, LTC USA (Ret)
March 24, 1936 - May 23, 2025
Robert Stanley (Stan) Cannon was born March 24, 1936 in La Blanca, Texas to Alvie and Amy Cannon. He grew up in south Texas, graduating from Edinburgh High School and then went on to attend Texas A&M University participating in the ROTC and Band, and graduating with a mechanical engineering degree in 1958.
After graduating, Stan enlisted in the military with the U.S. Army. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam war theaters -and furthered his education with a masters degree program while stationed in California. His military career spanned 20 years – and he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in Huntsville, AL.
Stan entered the next phase of his professional life serving as Senior Systems Engineer and Program Managers for a variety of government contracting companies – including Triad Systems, NAS, Inc., Lockheed-Martin and Boeing – over the next 30 years working on major military defense systems.
Stan is survived by his wife, Mary K. Cannon. Children include daughter Jennifer Chambers (Mark Chambers), son Mark Cannon, stepdaughter Nicole Anderson, and stepson Brian Larkin. Stan was blessed with eight grandchildren – Jessica Aho (Andy Aho), Jamilyn Dunlap, Courtney Larkin, Savannah Ellis (Stephen Ellis), Kyle Anderson (Emily Anderson), Ryan Anderson (Katie Anderson), Ashley Larkin, and Ocean Cannon.
Great-grandchildren include Emma Aho, Riley Aho, Arvaya Johnson, McKenna Ellis, Adalyn Anderson, and Ellianna Warren. Two great grandchildren due to arrive soon that he did not yet get to meet – but for which we are sure he will look on with love from heaven - are Jackson Ellis due July 2025, and Tate Stanley Anderson due August 2025.
Stan Cannon passed on 23 May 2025 – and is greatly loved and will be profoundly missed by his family.
Visitation will be Friday May 30th, 2025, 4–6pm at Berryhill Funeral Home. Graveside service with military honors at Maple Hill Cemetery Saturday May 31st, 2025, 2pm.
