Paul Lawrence Malter
August 2, 1952 - April 12, 2025
Paul Malter, 72, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Houston, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Paul lived a life marked by service, integrity, and unwavering faith.
Born on August 2, 1952, Ponca City in Oklahoma, Paul’s early years laid the foundation for a life of purpose and dedication. He pursued higher education at Texas A&M University in College Station, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree (1974) in Civil Engineering. During his undergraduate years, Paul was an active member of the Corps of Cadets and served as a Company Commander—an early indication of his leadership and commitment to excellence.
Following graduation, Paul was commissioned into the United States Air Force. He served honorably as a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO), flying F4 aircraft and achieving the rank of Captain. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism. After completing his service to the nation, Paul returned to Texas A&M to further his education. Paul earned his Master's Degree (1983) before embarking on a distinguished career in Energy.
Over the course of more than three decades in the field, Paul made significant contributions to environmental health and safety. He held several leadership roles throughout his career, most notably serving as Director of EH&S for El Paso Corp., which at the time operated America’s largest natural gas pipeline system. His work left a lasting impact on both colleagues and industry standards alike. Paul retired in 2016 after a long and successful professional journey.
Beyond his career accomplishments, Paul was deeply rooted in faith and family. A believer in Christ from a young age, he lived out his convictions daily—sharing his beliefs with his wife, Charlotte, as well as his children. He served as “Commander” of an AWANAS club at his local church in Tomball, Texas—a role that combined his love for mentorship with his spiritual devotion. Guided by the Golden Rule, Paul treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Paul found great joy in life’s simple pleasures: watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, cheering on Texas A&M sports teams, playing golf, deer and dove hunting, listening to classic rock and gospel music, and most importantly, spending cherished time with family—especially his grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Charlotte Malter, daughter Sarena Christensen and son-in-law Ryan, sons Bradley Malter and Timothy Malter and daughter in-law Rebecca, granddaughters Aubrey and Brielle Christensen, grandson Henry Malter, sister Myra Hays and brother in-law Jim Hays, and many more who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be held on 22nd day, April, 2025, starting at 11:30 AM at Champion Forest Baptist Church.
Paul's legacy lives on through the lives he touched—with steadfast love for family, enduring friendships, professional excellence, faithful service to country and God—and an unwavering belief that treating others with compassion is one of life’s greatest callings.
