Thomas Richard "Tony" Whitlow
July 8, 1955 - February 21, 2025
A funeral service for Thomas "Tony" Whitlow, 69, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Mr. Whitlow passed away on February 21, 2025, in Longview, Texas.
Thomas Richard "Tony" Whitlow was born on July 8, 1955, in Marshall, Texas to Winston Whitlow and Helena Bartschmid Whitlow. He passed away on February 21, 2025. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and was a 1973 graduate of Marshall High School. He attended Texas A&M University and earned an agri-business degree from East Texas State University. He was employed by Marshall Exploration, Pete McCarty Oil and Martex Well Services. He retired in 2012 and then began to work full time with the cattle and hay. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association and was a past board member of the Harrison County Texas Farm Bureau. Tony was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and had a strong love for nearby Good Hope Baptist Church.
Tony and Faye married on December 26, 1986, and celebrated their 38 years of marriage. He loved and cared for his animals, especially during the spring and fall calving seasons. Tony's strong work ethic, he learned from his hard-working parents helped him to do "the work of the day" at Whitlow Farms...Repairing a tractor, welding a part, vaccinating the calves, building a fence, plowing a field or baling the hay. He enjoyed mentoring young men and women, preparing young Ag students for Farm City Week, watching Texas Ranger baseball, listening to music and being a good neighbor. Tony was a generous man to help people in need.
He is survived by his wife Faye Echols Whitlow, sister Mary Katheryn Ware, nephew Toby Ware (Samantha) all of Marshall. Brothers-in-law: Grady Echols (Susan) George Echols (Edna) Sisters-in-law: Beth Echols, Nan Dillinger (Ron), Mary Echols, Gayle Miller (Harley) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his favorite dogs Boomer and Opie.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Winston and Helena Whitlow, brother -in-law David Ware, friend Keith Ware and three of his best buddy dogs Butch, Bo and Homer.
