Richard Michael Plato 

January 10, 1948 - May 11, 2025 

Richard Michael Plato, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Baytown, Texas, on May 11, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on January 10, 1948, in Chambers County, Texas, Richard was the son of Clayton Ward (“C.W.”) Plato and Iantha Adebelle (“Nancy”) Plato. He was a committed follower of Christ and member of Second Baptist Church in Baytown. Richard was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas, before receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1970. Richard also received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Nancy Plato, infant daughter, Julie Michelle Plato and brothers, James Clayton (“Jim”) Plato and Thomas Alfred (“Tommy”) Plato.

Richard is survived by his wife, Michael Dianne Plato, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was a proud and supportive father to his son, Richard Kelly Plato, and a caring father-in-law to Amy Marlyse Plato. His legacy lives on in his cherished grandchildren, Kelly Paige Nassab and her husband John Richard (“Jack”) Nassab, and Parker Michelle Volz and her husband Mathew Frederick (“Mat”) Volz, and their mother, Tina Michelle Mabry, as well as step-granddaughter, Grace Josephine Burgert, and his beloved great-grandchildren, Blair Michelle Volz, James Matthew Nassab and Barrett Mathew Volz who is due to be born in August of this year.

Richard will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His generosity, kindness, and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

A private family service will be held to honor his life. He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
