Elmor "Dale" McCullough '57 May 16, 2025 3:53 PM updated: May 16, 2025 4:13 PM

Elmor D. "Dale" McCullough

November 19, 1934 - May 7, 2025

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Elmor Dale McCullough, who left this world on Wednesday the 7th of May 2025. He was 90 years of age. Born on the 19th of November 1934, in Amarillo, Texas, Dale was the beloved son of Elmor Dale McCullough and Bonnie Belle McCullough. Dale was the younger brother to his only sibling Barbara.

Dale lived a life rich in love, commitment, and camaraderie. He was married for 68 years to the love of his life, Martha Keron Montgomery McCullough of Bryan, Texas, a partnership marked by unwavering devotion and mutual admiration.

A proud Aggie, and 35-year season ticket holder, Dale embodied the spirit of Texas A&M and carried its values throughout his life. At A&M, he was on the swimming/diving team and a member of the Singing Cadets. He played intramural sports, was a member of the Regimental Color Guard, and was executive officer of the Chemical Corps.

While in summer school of 1955, Dale auditioned and was cast in the summer musical “Hit the Deck”. There he met Martha Montgomery, who was in the chorus. She was home for the summer from the University of Texas, and love bloomed. During the next two years the road burned up between Austin and College Station. In 1957, after graduation, they finally married.

He also served his country honorably in the United States Army, demonstrating strength and dedication to a cause greater than himself.

Beyond his service, Dale found joy in life’s simple pleasures - golf, hunting, and fishing. Whether on the greens, in the woods, or by the water, he embraced the great outdoors with enthusiasm and gratitude. Yet, his greatest talent was making friends wherever he went. Known for his warmth and kindness, Dale never met a stranger, greeting everyone with a firm handshake, a bright smile, and an open heart.

He was, above all, a gentleman. He was gracious, dignified, and always thinking of others. Dale’s presence brought light to those around him, and while he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration. His life was a testament to loyalty, kindness, and joy, values that will continue to guide those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dale was deeply involved in his community and numerous charitable causes. He held leadership roles in the Uptown Exchange Club, participated in Sunshine Kids activities, and helped remodel the Escape Center for Abused Kids, where he served on the board. He spent twenty years volunteering with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he held a lifetime membership. He and Martha volunteered with the Houston International Festival for twenty-five years, hosting foreign artists. Dale was a lifetime member of several organizations, including the NRA, Texas A&M Former Students Association, multiple golf clubs, and bridge groups.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha; and two sons, Lane McCullough, and grandchildren, Ryan McCullough, and Georgia McCullough; and Matt McCullough and his wife Linda, and grandchildren, Rachel (McCullough) Hein and her husband Taylor Hein, Robert McCullough, and Reid McCullough. He also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews, Linda (Key) Shepard, Laurel Jones, Lisa Clements, and Kendall Linn, and their families.

A celebration of Dale's life is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 19th of May 2025, at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 20775 Kingsland Boulevard in Katy, where Rev. Christie Walker is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby Asbury Hall.

Rest in peace, Dale. You were truly one of a kind.
