Brandon James McGhee
March 21, 1996 - April 13, 2025
Brandon James McGhee, a beloved son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at the young age of 29 years old. Brandon was a bright light in so many lives, known for his ability to make people smile. Brandon’s laugh was loud, and his personality was a balance of silly and sweet. He was always the life of the party. The kind of person who never met a stranger, and you couldn't help but be drawn to his infectious joy.
Brandon was the fifth son born to Danny and Jeri McGhee. In his hometown of Alvin, Texas, Brandon grew up alongside his four older brothers, Andrew Slater, Brian Slater and Austin Slater, and his twin brother, Brett McGhee.
His competitive nature shined bright on the football field from the time he was eight years old until he graduated from Alvin High School. But those who were lucky enough to befriend him knew he never took life too seriously. His goofy personality and charisma was impossible to ignore.
Brandon loved experiencing different cultures through cuisine and movies. And with his self-described exquisite taste, he was always sharing recommendations and curating experiences for his family and friends. Brandon also loved cooking for others, and he was known to make some delicious dishes. He easily could have starred in his own comedy-laced cooking show.
Brandon attended Texas A & M University and was a proud member of the Fightin Texas Aggie class of 2019. In addition to the many strong friendships Brandon forged while living in College Station, he also earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Construction Science alongside his brother, Brett.
After graduating college, Brandon moved to Orlando, Florida to start his career in commercial construction. He proved to be a loyal, successful and highly-driven professional. He was very dedicated to his job and was loved and well-respected by his colleagues.
The geographic distance between Florida and Texas did nothing to temper Brandon’s love for Aggie sports or his relationship with his brothers. Brandon often traveled back to Texas and other states to watch the Aggies play in person. And when he wasn’t at the game, he spent countless hours on group calls with his brothers and friends discussing the game.
Brandon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Darlene and Randy Turner, his uncle, Frank Dyson, and his paternal grandparents, Ubie and Gewanda McGhee. And although his life was cut far too short, there is no question that Brandon died a hero. By electing to be an organ donor, Brandon gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. His organs have restored life’s promise for five people, and his donation of tissue has drastically improved the quality of life for many others.
In life, Brandon made a lasting impact on the lives of his friends and family. In death, Brandon made a lasting impact on the lives of strangers in need, which has helped his family find peace in the darkness of their grief. To continue Brandon’s legacy of selflessness, Brandon’s loved ones would like to bring more awareness to the importance of being an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Our Legacy in Brandon’s honor. Our Legacy is a Florida based Donate Life organization whose mission is to care for families, honor donors and help save lives through organ and tissue donation.
