Deanna Marie "Dee" (Woods) Smith
April 8, 1957 - January 31, 2025
Deanna Marie Smith, lovingly known as "Dee," passed away on January 31, 2025, in Victoria, Texas, at the age of 67. Born on April 8, 1957, in Refugio, Texas, Dee was the cherished daughter of surviving parents Robert Lee Woods and Dorothy Marie Woods. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Dee graduated from Refugio High School in 1975, where she shone brightly as a majorette and drum majorette. Her talent and charisma earned her the title of "Best Actress" in drama during her school years. She later attended Texas A&M University, where she pursued gymnastics with the same passion and determination that defined her life.
Throughout her career, Dee wore many hats with grace and dedication. She worked as a lifeguard, hairdresser, nurseryman, prison guard, and realtor. In each role, she brought her unique blend of humor, kindness, and hard work.
Dee's family was the heart of her world. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Smith; her children Jessica Gumm, Jake Gumm and his wife Meagen and Javonna Gumm; her stepdaughter Alison Smith and husband Marcus Jones, her stepsons Dustin Smith and wife Kristen, Michael Smith and wife Skye; and her beloved grandchildren who knew her as "Grandee", Knox, Liv, Jaylynn, Jessah, Iris, Ezra, Marley, Oliver, and Lillie. She also leaves behind her brothers Robert "Bubba" Lee Woods Jr. and his wife Melody and Bruce Edward Woods; her nephews Robert "Trey" Lee Woods, III (Chesney), and Ross Woods (Lindsay); and her niece Nicole Sudduth (Matthew).
Known for her fun-loving nature and quirky sense of humor, Dee had a gift for bringing joy to those around her. Whether gathering her family for holidays or spending time with her grandchildren-whom she adored-she created countless cherished memories. Always up for an adventure but equally content with cozy movie nights at home, Dee embraced life with enthusiasm and warmth.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grace Funeral Home located at 2401 Houston Hwy in Victoria, Texas. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church at 302 E. Plasuela in Refugio, Texas. Afterward, a fellowship lunch will take place at the Refugio Fairgrounds Expo Building at 245 Fairgrounds Rd.
Dee's legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in her remarkable journey.
